Barnsley Road Incident 05/03/10

Many pupils, parents and members of the community will be aware of an incident involving a Year 7 pupil that occurred on Barnsley Road during the lunchtime break today.

Following the accident, the pupil concerned was promptly attended to at the roadside by the Emergency Services and taken to Doncaster Royal Infirmary, accompanied by a member of the Senior Management Team, where he was met by family members.

The most recent update we have received indicates that he is still undergoing a full range of tests to determine the full nature and scope of the injuries he has sustained.

As the school has now closed for the weekend and as Monday is a Training Day and a non-pupil day, we will look to post an update when school resumes in full session on Tuesday March 9th.

Update 08/03/10 1:30pm

Slightly earlier than anticipated above, we are able to offer the following update.

Contact with the family has established that the pupil is out of Intensive Care, having spent the weekend in that area.  Medical staff have indicated that they are pleased with his progress at this stage.  He is now on the appropriate ward in Doncaster Royal Infirmary and beginning the necessary processes of treatment and recovery from the range of injuries sustained in such an incident.

The family has indicated their appreciation of the thoughts and wishes of the range of people who have made them known in many different ways since Friday.  Ridgewood numbers itself amongst those offering their best wishes and support, and would also wish to echo such thanks in terms of the response of pupils and parents alike to the difficult circumstances experienced last Friday afternoon.

Easter Holidays - please note that the school will close to pupils on Thursday 1st April 2010 for Easter, NOT Tuesday 1st April as stated in the Prospectus.
